At the height of World War II, the Republic of Turkey ordered 50 Kurus from Bradbury Wilkinson and 100 Lira banknotes from Thomas de la Rue of United Kingdom... Смотреть далее » Newly minted banknotes were put on ships to be sent to Turkey. While in harbor at Pireus, Greece on April 6th 1941 the ships were bombed by German forces. Ships sank and recovered 50k and 100TL notes were put into circulation by local population but not recognized by Turkey. Thereupon Turkish authorities placed order for new notes at Reichsdruckerei Berlin, Germany !
Amount of 100 Lira notes recovered is unknown. All notes suffered damage due to contact with salt water.
