House of the Kamios, Oita

The house is the oldest existing wooden house in Kyushu region. Although the year of construction is normally unknown in the case of private houses, there is a record that this house was built in 1771. The house was built in Magari-Yosemune-zukuri style with the L-shaped main building and steep thatched roof, which was typical to this region. As is the case with the houses in Kyushu and further south regions, a lot of bamboo is used as building material.
